For coaches, clubs, and schools
Getting a student to explain what they played is easy. Getting them to explain how they decided is the hard part. Twelve profiles, twelve ways in.
The problem with asking a student why they played that
Ask a young player why they made a move and you usually get the move restated back to you. Ask what they were feeling three moves before the mistake and you get something you can actually coach.
The twelve profiles work as an entry point because the student already believes they know their sign. That belief does the hardest part of the job, which is getting a kid to talk about their own decision making without feeling examined.
What the profiles actually give you
Each one names a concrete habit rather than a mood. Cancer players leave the attacking piece unprotected, then do it again after losing it. Leo players offer takebacks because it puts them back in control. Gemini players talk through your thinking time. Taurus players will not abandon an attack pattern even after you have blocked it.
Those are coachable observations. A student who reads their own profile and argues with half of it has still spent ten minutes thinking about their own patterns, which is ten minutes more than most drills produce.
How coaches use it
Assign a student their own profile and ask which parts are wrong about them. The disagreements are more useful than the agreements, because a student arguing about their own habits is a student thinking about their own habits.
For group sessions, pair students whose profiles pull in opposite directions and let them play. Put a Taurus who will not change plans across from an Aquarius who plays gimmicks and the debrief writes itself.
